Inversion Therapy

The basic idea behind inversion therapy has been around for many years, specifically, the value of elongating joints to relieve either pain caused by compression due to gravity, or to allow space for connective tissue to grow and heal damage joints after injury. In a very common context we all use this kind of "therapy" without thinking as part of daily life, "putting your feet up" after a long day for example not only allows the blood to drain from the lower leg and feet but also places a gentle stretch on the legs and back with elevation being the key to its benefits.

Modern inversion therapy builds on the benefits of this natural stretching mechanism in a controlled and targeted manner to help sufferers of long term back pain find relief without surgery or medication. When the body is inverted, gravity is turned from a constant, detrimental force to a positive one that works with the body to undo the damage of long term spinal compression. The key factor that contributes to the healing process is that when the spine is not subject to a compressional force, the discs that cushion the vertebrae are given room to gently expand, regain their natural moisture and re align themselves. It is the lack of natural cushioning and balance in the spinal column that causes the vast majority of back problems and it is for this reason that so many long term back pain sufferers find inversion therapy so effective.

In addition to being natural, gentle and non invasive, it is inversion therapy's progressive and easy to use nature that makes it suitable for home use. Compare this to other therapies that can be helpful to those with back pain such as yoga which requires a considerable degree of training and practise and can actually do more harm than good if not done correctly. Using inversion tables could not be easier and there is no significant user input required beyond deciding the angle you wish to invert to.

It is recommended that you consult your doctor prior to undertaking any form of exercise or therapy but beyond that there is no special requirement for starting inversion therapy at home. The angle of inversion should be very low to start with, around 20 degrees is usually a good starting point and even at this gentle angle the benefits can still be enjoyed from day one. Depending on the nature of the back pain, most inversion table users undertake three or four sessions of around twenty minutes per week and a regime of using the table every other day is a popular choice that many users finds works very well.

We wish everyone the very best in their search for relief from back pain and have partnered with Amazon UK to provide a good range of affordable inversion tables in our shop.
